It doesn’t mean taking vacations or going on per-planning trips, it means making the journey out to somewhere you’ve never gone before with an open schedule, to let life show you what opportunities were waiting for you that you couldn’t have even imagined before. Traveling provides you with knowledge and helps you to broaden your horizons. You can add a fun twist to it with a TEFL/ TESOL course.

Traveling is wonderful in many ways, especially when you are teaching abroad and getting paid to do so. It can capture you with a sense of wanderlust and leaves you longing for more destinations to visit, various cultures to experience, local delicacies and various foods to eat, and people to meet. It is a common notion within us that we should wait for our later years to discover the amazement of traveling and explore the world. Normally when you travel, you’re either with friends or family, but how often do you actually talk to tour guides, hotel employees or just random locals whom you see while you’re out vacationing? By interacting to those people, you’ll surprise yourself that how much you learn about another culture. Traveling solo can give you a chance to explore into the local culture and discover a new you. It doesn’t matter whether you are seeing the canals of Venice for the first time or the pyramids of Egypt, traveling teaches you to take in the moment of wonder and make the most of it. Traveling is like a feast for your eyes and it makes you to stop and live in that second, minute and moment. At that moment it’s hard to think about your latest text message when you’re half way across the world visiting places you’ve never been to before and seeing spots you’ve only read or heard about.
You can choose from an in class or an online mode of TEFL course, which will provide you with the opportunity to travel abroad as the courses are designed for both expert and wannabe TEFL professionals who are looking for profound knowledge in the field of TEFL and want to carve a niche in EFL/ESL teaching realm. Nothing can change the way you view your own life experience like seeing the way other people are living. Not only will you be more grateful and gratified for the life you have, you’ll also develop a new sense of wonder and understanding for other cultures and countries. While soaking in the language, the way of life and what people in foreign countries value, you’ll value the fact that there is diversity everywhere in the world and will make you evaluate your own values without any doubt. You will become more open to different kinds of life as no country or even city lives with the same mannerisms. Countries have diverse cultures, and people have varied beliefs, but when you travel, you see that no matter how different people are or the way they live, there is a natural goodness in most people. It’s the common thread that ties us all together.

Be a Trained Montessori Teacher with Professional Training

The contemporary time in this world is completely surrounded by technology. Health, education, personal welfare everything is just a click away. Bringing up a child in this technologically advanced age can be quite challenging, they already know the World Wide Web. Thus, to nurture a child’s emotional and behavioural capabilities in a better way a form of early education is needed that helps a kid grow with intelligence and empathy rather than a mechanical being.

The Montessori form of education plays a pivotal role in a child’s early education. It has evolved since ages at par with the fast paced world but it still holds the principles of its founder. Sometimes we confuse Montessori teaching with traditional ways of teaching; however, both are entirely different. While traditional learning  focuses mainly on academics and follow a set curriculum and discipline Montessori  education focuses on the child’s acquisition of academic, social, practical and life skills. In traditional education system a child is a passive participant in learning, taught by a teacher, sitting at desks, copying from the board and they are limited to what they are given. Through Montessori education a child learns by linking their physical and cognitive senses, they learn at their own pace. The child can move around and work where he/she is comfortable, they are inspired to build internal self-discipline and emphasis is laid on the overall intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development.
Montessori education offers our children opportunities to develop their potential as they step out into the world as a responsible citizen with understanding and compassion. This education system is beneficial to the children in many ways. Each child is valued as a unique individual and to accommodate individual interests the Montessori system has a wide variety. The teacher has to know how to guide each child with an individualized learning plan that compliments the child’s curiosity and skills. The classrooms become a close knit caring and sharing community. The teachers have to instil love and kindness in them, help them solve their problems and resolve conflicts peacefully.  Montessori students enjoy freedom within limits; Montessorians understand that internal satisfaction drives the child’s curiosity and interest and results in joyous learning that is sustainable over a lifetime. Teachers provide environments where students have the freedom and the tools to pursue answers to their own questions.
The teacher plays the most important role in moulding a child. As Montessori education provides unique learning opportunities a teacher must be well accustomed to the principles and methods of the system. The Montessori teacher should not only concentrate on teaching but also on the child’s learning. The teacher should create an environment for the child where learning looks attractive. The teacher should present their best self and cater to each individual need. Thus, training of the teachers is an important aspect. They should know perseverance and be prepared to handle unexpected responsibilities. A teacher should know the difference between rote learning and exploring one’s own ideas and capabilities. A teacher should bring about the best in the child and prepare him/her to think critically, work collaboratively towards building a better world.

Empower Your Learners by Lending an Ear to Your Pre and Primary Class

Pre and Primary classrooms are not just teacher to student interaction. Rather it’s both way and teacher plays a vital role of a listener and thus empowering the students in the learning process. Hence good listening skills are needed to develop empathy and understanding with the students, and also must have the ability to assess whether they understood what are being taught.  Listening skills also help in negotiating with students and defusing a suddenly erupt classroom conflicts.

Listening is a two-way process wherein the teachers not just only do the talking but also listen to the students. As the students spend a lot of time listening to the teacher, this enhances their listening skills. Both the teacher and student learn from each other. The practice should be such that students develop their own educational plan which involves searching and finding solutions to their everyday queries and problems generated. They must never consider the teachers as the fountain of all knowledge.
The teacher must have the ability to empathise with the student’s viewpoint. Even then personality clashes, differences, status gap between teacher and student etc may rise and thus obstacle the listening and communication between the teacher and the student.  To reduce tension in the classroom the teacher must introduce empathetic listening in the classroom. He/she must promote honest communication and build trust and confidence among themselves.
21st century teachers need to cultivate a range of skills apart from teaching methods to support the learning goals of all children.  Diploma in Pre and Primary teacher training designed meticulously to produce efficacious educators who would understand the need of the students.  These educators must exhibit following characteristics to display genuine desire to understand:-
  • Be attentive and not easily distracted.
  • Create positive atmosphere with non verbal behaviour like body language and facial expressions.
  • Act like a mirror, by reflecting what exactly you are feeling.
  • Show that you are never in a hurry and maintain silence throughout teaching, as this gives students opportunities to think and reflect on questions and topics in their mind before verbally giving an answer.
  • Never get emotionally involved, angry, argumentative and upset. Always maintain a professional attitude while you interact with students, as you are their role model and children look up to you for directions.
  • Never jump to conclusions and judgement about any student.
  • Avoid pre-conceived ideas about a student based on what you have heard from a colleague or former teacher.

Always show that you are listening. Lend you ear in their learning process. This can be done by encouraging acknowledgements like ‘Yes’ or ‘I see’ or simply by nodding. Even without any verbal communication you can show that you are listening like eye contact, facial expression or relaxed body postures. And always remember to invite more responses from the students and thus encouraging them to speak up with full enthusiasm. Use of words- ‘tell me more’ or’ I’d like to hear about that’- words works like magic. Never interrupt or change the subject as this is very discouraging.
Thus the pre and primary teacher training course prepares you to handle the most important aspect of communication. You stop to teach or preach or just give an advice, you learn to become silent speaker. Hence the teacher becomes their friend rather a better educator from whom they learn in a playful manner. As the educator never speaks down to them, they can sense the teacher is not above their level and they would stop responding. They find it rather easy to communicate with this teacher. This improved motivation helps in the fulfilment of the learning goals.
Join the course and learn the modern techniques of teaching and grow on your skills. Classroom management is not an easy task; you have to master the skill to deal with students of all levels and behavioural pattern. Listening skill is something you must work on while you pursue the course. Candidates enrolling from different backgrounds must keep one thing in mind. This learning and teaching process is not about the subject matter i.e., ‘not what you teach but how you teach’.

Use Story as a Methodology while Teaching English to Young Learners

The use of story in a young learner’s classroom creates a good learning environment. Through stories, the language acquisition skill is activated and it becomes easy for children to induce the language elements from the data provided by the stories. Thus English language learners specially the young ones benefit from storytelling because stories help them to develop their ability to understand spoken language and engage in thinking skills.
Storytelling is a kind of reading which requires involvement of the children in construction of meaning. When children get fully involved, they feel the joy and satisfaction wherein they learn to understand. As a TEFL teacher, we help the children in class to develop constructive and creative comprehension.
When children listen to stories, in terms of comprehension response, they get involved in various mental processes. Like, initially they create a mental picture of what they are listening to. They soon start imagining what is going to happen next. Children often identify themselves with the characters and situations in the story in terms of their own experiences. And finally, children apply their own values to those found in the story. As such each child demonstrates differently to a story in regards to their own interpretation. They often discuss and share this analysis with others in the classroom.
There can be few techniques of storytelling to make it worthwhile:-
The TEFL teacher must be aloud in reading stories alongside making different gestures to make connections between oral language and the print in the book. The teacher must also point to the word or line to emphasize these connections. A very good tool for reading aloud could be use of big books with enlarged pictures. A story is more memorable when a student associates pictures with words.
-The main purpose of reading stories is to give students oral language input and a bridge to literacy in the new language. For teaching TEFL young learners, the teacher must introduce a lot of pre reading work which prepares the learners to be able to understand a story. This pre reading work involves building up vocabulary through different kinds of activities like games, puzzles, matching activities, songs etc that help them to get familiar with the English language as a new language to learn.
There are also few post reading tasks and language activities which make the story more comprehensible and they shift from the receptive side of listening and reading to more productive output of speaking and writing.
Repetitive stories are also very useful for young learners to memorize. When children listen to stories over and over, this repetition allows them to acquire certain language items and reinforce others unconsciously. Repetition makes books understandable and children learn the pattern and structure of a story and they eventually recognize words.
Thus teachers should select appropriate methodologies and didactic in order to make learning interesting and meaning for children. At the beginning of the process the basic story reading could be helpful. But it is surprising to see children’s individual response every time a teacher read a story. Hence they demonstrate understanding of the story and their language learning. The success of stories lies in taking an account of children’s like and interests and then eventually the process of reading has been followed appropriately.
Another important consideration is that in this early learning stage, children must be surrounded with a lot of meaningful, interesting and comprehensible input to help them grow. The greater amount of inputs received before and during the reading, the most amount of success is achievable. It also helps in infer, predict and answer to questions asked by teachers and thus show their understanding levels.
TEFL Young Learners course is an appropriate learning scope for the teachers to grab understanding as to how teaching and learning process can be practiced.  The TEFL young learner teacher must be efficient in not just executing effective story telling but also know how to implement methodologies as discussed above in the most appropriate way. TEFL learners and teachers must bond well to share their mutual understanding that helps in the process of learning. Stories are just tools and the TEFL teacher must know the best use of those in making learning effective.

Provide a Nurturing Environment as a Montessori Teacher

Montessori teachers view children and classroom education differently than the common teacher-student relationship. Their focus shifted from academic education to encouraging each child’s individuality by providing nurturing environment to teach social interactions and emotional skills. In order to achieve this goal Montessori methods are often applied in class and thus bringing about overall development at early age of a child.

The Montessori Method was developed by Maria Montessori in the early 20th century, the educator and physician had altogether different outlook towards child growth and development.  The method focuses on each child’s internal guidance for self-directed development. Herein the teacher is like a monitor or guide keeping a watch at the classroom for smooth flow of learning and avoiding obstacles, without directly instructing or involving in the free ambience of the classroom. The lessons given by the teacher only revolves round helping the child with use or play with various instructional toys in the classroom.
Instead of instructing with lectures, handouts, worksheets and lesson plans, a Montessori teacher will offer guidance while the children themselves responsible for their own learning in individual or group. The classroom will contain several stations, each having different toy sets allowing the child to explore and learn. One station can have bucket of Lego blocks and several pictures of simple objects like an apple or a house which the children will build if they want. Other stations might have books, xylophone, pencils and crayons which will involve them in engaging activities. The idea behind this is that children will learn through playing.
Another interesting Montessori classroom is age grouping. Montessori classrooms often have mixed-age class, for example children ages ranging from three to six. This is important because children at different stages learn in their different pace. And younger children learn by watching older children play. This is also known as scaffolding, a method of social learning.
A Montessori classroom is completely different form typical classroom in a number of ways. This difference has to be considered by the teacher while providing a nurturing environment to develop children independently in a well-rounded manner. BY allowing them to play on their own and instead of letting them listen to lectures, classroom allows children develop the motivation to learn and explore.
If you are planning to be a Montessori teacher then training is absolutely is necessary to keep yourself updates with the Montessori approaches to needed to be applied in a classroom. There are different levels of Montessori Teachers Training- Certificate, Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma which will help you develop and prepare yourself in a Montessori environment.  Instead of information passing from teacher to student, herein the teacher is now skilled to put the children in an environment and help them to learn by making intelligent choices and carry out research in a prepared environment. The teacher constantly protects the student’s concentration from interruption. This fosters a love of learning in the students. There is in fact a triangle between- student, parent or teacher and the environment. It’s the role of the adult to prepare and continue preparing the environment to link the child to it through introductions of various learning inputs like- books and materials, projects and lessons. All this nurtures the child’s exploration and creative zeal. Hence, children often learn to surpass the level of education of their peers and knowledge of the adults around them and they learn to find answers by themselves.
The Montessori school environment is arranged according to subject area like cooking, cleaning, gardening, art and craft and caring for animals, library corner etc wherein the children move around the classroom instead of sitting at the desks. There is no limit posed on the child to their pace of learning. They can take longer time in learning things new to them. The mixed age groups of children learn from each other, facilitated by careful observation, individual lessons and keeping record by the teacher. All this help the teacher in developing a bonding with the students. This nurturing environment provides the base for complete growth and development of the children.

5 ways to Submit Online Assignments on Time

Assignment, a term that can snatch the sleep and leaves one with deadlines knocking on the door but if a person is pursuing an online course her / his learning endeavor will remain incomplete without this. Even though the person likes it or not, the teachers still assign it. Many students will understand that whatever assignments are there, with a slight effort one will no longer need to fight with their projects. So when things get tough, here are some available guidelines to complete the assignments within no time.

•    One should think of the assignment as a learning guide. For example while doing an online TEFL assignment one should not do it just to get it done. But one needs to think about ‘active learning’ and should try to think about what they are doing and the person should think of connections to something which is entirely different. Also, believe that how the given assignment is helping him/her to get more marks in the examination.
•    Lists can be extremely beneficial while working on an assignment.  Lists can help the person consider of what the person needs to do and to rearrange the work process. However, next time if the person is feeling lost in the middle of assignments, the person should make a list called ‘Things I Need to do Right Now', because the person may forget something in this hustle bustle. It possibly will comfort the mindset – and sometimes that is all the person needs.
•    If the person has spent a lot of time delaying, and ignoring the assignments, he or she should make a time table and can save time in many ways. For example: when the person is in hurry then he or she should not spend time making food rather the person can buy from outside or just ask someone else doing it for the person. The friends and family needs to be understanding and provide all kinds of support to the student to complete assignment in no time. So one needs to cast out those puffy sighs and complaints of sleepiness and see who takes the draw.
•    One should not forget to enjoy and have fun while working on the assignment.  It is always a good way, and it makes the person confident, and it can be the energy booster too. Taking a gap from the job and going for some relaxation at some nearby place or his or her own place with a friend can be good choice. But he or she should not waste a lot of time there with too many friends and end up being tired. If the person feels like he or she is in the cooking mood, he or she can bake some cakes or just mop the floor or even the person can just reorganize the bookshelf.  It could end up being more productive in the long run. Maybe this is only appropriate if the person is resourceful but one should find out fun ways to complete the assignment. For example while working on a TEFL assignment one can think of some fun activities and can also try that before including in the project. Staying on assignment with short break can make sure that both the person and the work are on the fast track to attainment.
•    Making a proper plan to prepare is important especially for those who are working and pursuing an online course like TEFL. Preparation is important if he/she is trying to finish the tasks on time. The person should always be prepared to do the work at any given time when it has been handed over to the person.
The best thing the person can do is to work on the assignments on time for example if the person have been given an assignment for the weekend, he or she should not wait when the weekend is almost over and start working with frown on Sunday night. Starting earlier can avoid the last minute's jumpiness of submitting any online assignment.

Activities for Kids and Its Importance

“It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them.” - Leo F. Buscaglia has given emphasis on the usefulness of playing for a proper development of the kids. In fact we cannot deny the fact that kids and sport is a great mix. By teaching the child how to be a good sport from early on, you help him get the most out of being part of the game. Playing team game helps kids construct healthy minds, healthy bodies, friendships and many important life skills. Children are by nature on the go and playful and they need a lot of movement and physical activity every day.

In the pre and primary school days the child will enjoy testing out his or her physical abilities. She or he will get a lot of self esteem from new physical achievements too. Some kids will take as much active play as they can get, while others enjoy less. Whether it is a birthday party or a summer picnic, games are a great way to engage all kids in being full of life. Grade school is a time of building individuality and self esteem, so as a pre and primary teacher you need to give confidence every kid in your group to enjoy the game and find ways to make sure that everyone is able to play a part.

Games teach the kids the importance of open mindedness and sharing when they engage in activities with other kids. Games and sports are not only imperative for success in but it is significant for achievement in every walks of our life. Kids love to be outdoors than closed indoors of school. Games in team, treasure hunts, etc. will make the kids happy and refreshed. Outdoor activities with other kids will make kids to learn the basics of social living and this will make them feel higher level of affection with their class mates.
There are several advisable outdoor activities for kids. Games and sports in the advanced countries of the present day are a regular feature of the pre and primary school set of courses. In the modern world, most kids lack the opportunities to see, feel and learn from the nature. Some fun activities at the school court yard are very well serving the reason of outdoor activity. They are good quality exercises and help to build fine, physique for the little boys and girls. They make them mentally attentive and physically strong.  Kids need sufficient amount of physical activities for their muscles to grow stronger. Students learn to cope with hard situations they can overcome their nervousness. Playing is one of the most significant things you can do with your kid, because play is necessary for your child’s brain growth. The time the kids spend playing in somebody's company gives the child a lot of different way and times to learn.
Play can be of different type – Like free play just happens, depending on what takes the child’s interest at the time. Free play is not planned and it lets the child use his/ her imagination and move at own pace. While structured play is more prearranged and is often led by the pre and primary teacher. The easy games and activities are not just enjoyable when it comes to kids, but they are precious lessons as kids learn from everything.

How to Increase the ‘Eat Q’ of the Kids

Eating together in the class room with other friends is how kids learn to make healthy food choices, to communicate with others and to master table manners. But here you as a teacher need to play the most vital role of teaching them healthy food habits and instilling the sense of healthy eating and its importance among them. Also the kids are staying for a long time in school hence you need to take care of their proper nutrition as well. If you insist that young kids sit with the friends at a certain time even if they are not ready for it at that time or are refusing to eat, they will start to become skilled at the rules of dining together. Here is how you can make hay while the sun shines.

First you need to set up a healthy regular snack and meal schedule in school. Most kids do well with one meal and one snack while in school. When the kid’s body is used to a proper time schedule for meal and snack, hunger and appetite are more regular. This helps the young person feel more in adjust with his or her body.
You also need to have the child eat a healthy meal time. Suggest their parents to pack fruits, vegetables, yogurt, cereals, bread, meat, dry fruits etc. for their meal. Make sure that they do not eat junk foods, fast foods, chocolates, sweet or fried foods regularly. It may suits their taste buds but will result into weigh gain, cavities, stomach problem and other diseases.

But you should keep in mind that the food should be also tasty which they will be eager to eat. Find at least one food that the child likes, offering healthy and tasty snacks that the child will enjoy. Keep the meal time interesting, pleasant and positive. For example you can take a balanced approach by cheering healthier treats and smaller piece of those treats. Like get the kids in the habit of sharing one small bowl of French fries once in a while.
Another is to confirm a meal and snacks time and limit meals to a reasonable length of time. Eating lunch should not take longer than 30 minutes. If essential, you can even create an organized meal and snacks sitting arrangement.
After you promote a healthy meal time and food schedule, encourage the kids to drink a lot of water and limit sweet drinks. As a teacher it is also your duty to teach them the importance of drinking water and that they never go thirsty. Also offer lots of vegetables and fruits every day. For example, add some fruit to the kid’s snack, and include some carrot sticks in the kid's lunch.

Another effective way instilling interest and love for fruits and veggies among the kids is to have them grow some vegetables or fruits in school garden. Let the kids have their own plants to take care of. Or you can keep some cooking classes where the kids can make their own salads or fruit shake. This will add a new dimension to their eating schedule.
Finally keep in mind that you are the one whom they look up to so be a good role model. If kids see you are trying to eat right and getting physically active it will send a message that good health and right eating is absolutely essential.
